MEMO
Please be advised that, due to recent issues, we are asking that community members switch power to a different company outside of Direct Energy Regulated. Please note that, if you are unable, for whatever reason, to switch power companies, this does not mean you will be cutoff. This is done to prevent problems with Direct Energy payments that have been occurring within recent months and moving to a different company may prevent future problems that may lead to cutoffs.
1. Some recommendations for switching are as follows:
- Enmax: 310-4822
- ATCO Energy: 1-844-687-2826
- Encor by Epcor: 1-800-667-2345
- Direct Energy (non-regulated): 1-855-452-8869
- Just Energy: 1-866-587-8674 (Note that there is a U.S and Canada phone number. You may need to request power in Alberta, Canada when calling)
*You can also visit the each respective website through google and register on those sites.
2. Have your residential addresses and Site ID’s ready before calling. If you already receive a Direct Energy bill, you can find your Site ID on the top left of the bill on the page where your monthly charges are located. If you do not have or receive a bill, you may need to visit the respective departments at the band office. Social assistance clients can visit Carla Gladue for Site ID info while non clients can visit Deanna Calliou for theirs. Please note that this info will only be given to the bill holder/resident who has that house registered to them.
3. When calling, you may be asked to pay a service fee to connect. The charge is different for each company. If you are unable to pay this fee, please visit the respective department you need help from (I.E if you are an S.A client, please visit Social Assistance).
4. There is a possibility Direct Energy Regulated may ask for a connection fee to allow other companies to connect. If they do so, please ask for them to send you this in writing for our records.
Again, you will not need to switch if you cannot; however, it is recommended you do so to prevent further issues that have been occurring with Direct Energy regulated consumers. If you normally receive assistance for payment on your bills, changing the company will not change this; you will still receive help in paying them.
If anything changes in the future in regards to Direct Energy and the Band, we will notify the community.
Thank you.
