Atikameg Health offers specialty services to address the needs of those who are dealing with mental and physical health problems. These services are free and those who are in need of them are encouraged to reach and ask for help.

Courtney Okemow is an invaluable member of the Atikameg Health team, serving as the Allied Health Coordinator. This position involves a diverse range of responsibilities focused on assisting therapists, families, and staff in healthcare and head start/daycare settings.
Areas of focus include:
Facilitating effective communication between Children’s Allied Health and families
Supporting families with documentation, medical navigation, respite applications, and ongoing coaching regarding available services in the Whitefish Lake area
Collaborating with community partners to ensure access to appropriate services for children within the community.
Additionally, Courtney is actively involved at the Atikameg Headstart and daycare, where her responsibilities encompass supervising, supporting, and encouraging daycare staff, ensuring smooth operations during staff absences, and maintaining open communication with parents. Courtney is strongly committed to supporting children and their families, fostering positive and encouraging relationships that empower both staff and children to thrive.

Katie has a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Athabasca University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and communications from the University of Ottawa.
Katie has worked in a community mental health setting with many different problems and populations, particularly self-esteem, parenting issues, and eating disorders. She then moved to post-secondary counselling, and working with individuals recovering from workplace injuries. Her background in sociology and communications means that she brings an extra perspective for people dealing with interpersonal issues of any type.
Katie approaches therapy as a collaboration between herself and the client. She is open to feedback and believes the client is the expert in their own life. In session, she uses a mix of existential, solution-focused, narrative, cognitive behavioural, and feminist therapy approaches. This means that Katie focuses on client’s perspective, considers personal and interpersonal factors impacting the problem, explores goals and possible outcomes with the client, and identifies patterns or habits that may be contributing to the problem.

Nicole is a wife to a wonderfully supportive husband and a mother to three young girls who she adores. In 2008, she graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine with a degree in Occupational Therapy and has absolutely loved her journey working with children in home, school-based and clinic settings over the last 13 years.
She took some time off work to stay home with her two oldest daughters and four years later, welcomed her third daughter. It was having three babies that fuelled her passion for supporting laboring mothers. Her dream to become a birth doula was achieved in June of 2019 and since then she has supported many beautiful births!
She is passionate about deep connections, personal growth, and supporting others on their journey of growing and learning about themselves. Her dream is to empower others to achieve their full potential using a loving, nurturing, and engaging approach while weaving together care providers to provide the best possible outcomes for families.

Lyndsay has been a speech-language pathologist for 18 years supporting children and families in a variety of settings. Lyndsay believes in a client centered practice developing connection with children and their families to then support their language and learning needs. Lyndsay has advanced practice training in the area of Childhood Apraxia of Speech and has particular interest in children with speech disorders and the connection between speech, language and literacy development.
In her free time, Lyndsay enjoys spending time with her family, especially doing things outdoors like camping, biking, and swimming.

Candra is a Physical Therapist with 22 years of diverse experience across multiple settings, including community, clinic, school, and home environments. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Saskatchewan.
She had a strong desire to provide quality rural based care and puts a lot of miles on in central and northern Alberta. Her expertise includes infant and child development, infant headshape and torticollis, movement challenges (balance, coordination, strength), neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment, as well as gross motor development.
She is deeply passionate about watching children as they grow, evolve, and reach their maximum potential and firmly believes in presuming competence, fostering creativity, and collaborating closely with families and the community to support each child's unique journey.
